The Troop had a great time in the Smokies this July. The weather was (mostly) great and the campsite was fantastic. In two hikes (one to Andrews Bald and the other to Hen Wallow Falls), we covered about 8 miles over tough terrain. The boys did an excellent job on the trail and made the trips with ease. We saw a lot of great scenery and even a snake or two. Much to the disappointment of the Scouts (and the relief of the Scoutmaster), we did not run into any bears during the trip.
We also took a leisurely inner tube float trip and as an exciting raft ride down the Upper PIgeon River. Not everyone knew what to expect on the ride, but by the end everyone was ready to do it again! One of the boys got chucked out of the raft after an impact with a rock (a common occurrence), but he and his fellow Scouts remembered their training and got him back into the boat in short order. Even grumpy Mr. Gibson had a good time on the river.
